WHAT COURSE DO I BOOK? 

What age does my child have to be to learn how to sail? 
minimum age requirement for our courses is 7 years old. We suggest that if your child is between 7 and 9 they book onto the Young sailors course.
Once they are 9 they can start with the RYA stage 1&2.  

Where should my child start? 
Age 7-9  
For beginners aged 7-9 we recommend our Young Sailors course. This takes place in Optimist dinghies designed for our youngest sailors. While the course does work towards the RYA Stage 1 certificates, there is an increased focus on gaining confidence on the water and learning through games.  
Age 9-15  
For beginners aged 10-15 we recommend our Stage 1 and 2 course. This takes place in Laser Pico dinghies. Throughout the week participants work towards their RYA Stage 1 and 2 certificates covering all the basic skills needed to get out on the water as a confident sailor.  

What course should they do next? 
After Stage 2 
For sailors aged 8-12 who have completed their Stage 2 course we recommend our Stage 2 & 3 course.
This course teaches sailors everything the need to know to launch, rig and sail a dinghy independently in all directions.  For age 13-15 and fast learners, there is the option of going straight to Stage 3 & 4.   
After Stage 3
Sailors with Stage 3 can progress to Stage 4, or Start Racing. 
After Stage 4 
After completing Stage 4 the next course we advise is our Youth Advanced Modules course. This course focuses on working towards the two of the RYA Advanced Modules. Sailors can also progress through racing modules. 

My child would like to sail with their friends, but they are all different levels. Is this possible? 
Youth Stage Courses sometimes combine for games, and always at lunch or breaktimes. 
If they would like to sail together we reccomend Holiday Club mixed ability sessions.

This is the default message if you are logged in without current membership. 
This often happens when your membership expires before the course start date. 
​Membership runs from April to April, so you may not have renewed.

Do you offer sibling or returners discount? 
Unfortunately not, but we offer members discount on all courses, so you may benefit from family membership. 

WHAT DO I NEED? 

What kit should I pack for a junior course? 
There is no need to buy specialist sailing clothing; we will provide them with a wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet. Please ensure you pack:  

• A swimming costume and lightweight t-shirt to wear underneath their wetsuit.  
• A towel in case they get wet and for showering after sailing.  
• Closed toe footwear which you do not mind them getting wet (old trainers are perfect). Flip flops or sandals cannot be worn afloat.  
• Sun cream, please make sure they have sun cream on when they arrive and have some with them to re-apply later in the day.  
• A packed lunch and water bottle.
