LATEST UPDATE  ON CLUB ACTIVITIES

Date: 23rd March 2021
Good News!
Wembley Sailing Club will be re-opening on Monday 29th March with racing starting on Sunday 4th April at 10.00am!

Finally after months of being in lockdown and being unable to sail we are delighted to announce that from Monday 29th March we are planning to re-open the club for leisure sailing and racing. The 2021 sailing season is finally due to start!

This is in line with the Government’s staged return to normal activities as set out in their Covid-19 Spring Response. Re-opening however will be subject to final approval and guidance from the Government and the RYA closer to the 29th March. Should there be any change n their plans we will let you know as soon as possible.

RACING: SUNDAYS
The first organised racing will take place on Sunday 4th April at 10.00am. The racing format will be three short races followed by a longer final race. This will be the start of the 2021 Spring Series.

RACING: WEDNESDAYS
Wednesday Evening Series will start on the 14th April at the earlier time than usual of 6.30pm - this earlier time will apply also to Wednesday 21st and 28th April. It will then revert to 7.00pm for the remainder of the Wednesday Evening Series. The format will be two short races.

LEISURE SAILING
Leisure sailing can take place from Monday 29th March but only by members with their own boats and NOT club boats. Club boats may only be used when there is safety boat cover - this is a general club rule. Buoyancy aid aids must be worn by all WSC members at all times whilst on the water - again this is a general club rule and not specific to the present pandemic regulations.

ROSTERING
Rostering for the duty officer, safety boat crews and race officers on Sundays and Wednesday evenings will re-commence from Sunday 4th April - on the website please go to ‘Membership’ and then ‘Member Portal’ and then 'Club Duties' in the drop down menu.

THE CLUBHOUSE
For the moment the clubhouse is closed with the exception of the toilets. The showers and changing room areas are NOT to be used - masks are to be worn whilst indoors. Hand sanitisers will be available in the entrance lobby. We will post an update how much of the club can be used following RYA Guidance on Step 2 due to take place on the 12th April.

SOCIAL CONTACT - from Monday 29th March, the Rule of 6 will apply however formally organised sports for adults and under 18s compliant with the guidance set out below and as issued by the national governing bodies (the RYA) will not be subject to the gatherings limits.

HANDS - wash your hands regularly and for 20 seconds. Hand sanitisers will be available at key points around the club grounds and club building.

FACE - wear a face covering/mask within the clubhouse and toilets where social distancing may be difficult, and where you may come into close contact with other WSC Members.

SPACE - stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings/mask or increasing ventilation indoors). Wherever possible all the relevant UK Government guidance on social distancing should be adhered to.

GENERALLY:
All participants prior to sailing with people from other households must:
  • Self-symptom check before leaving home
  • Assess personal risk and that of your team
  • Limit car sharing
  • Register your attendance with the host club for test and trace, and where possible download and activate the NHS app
  • Arrive and leave in sailing kit where possible - changing rooms are not to be used
  • Sanitise hands on arrival and prior to touching any shared surface
  • Maintain social distancing at all times whilst ashore before launching after recovery - the Rule of 6 applies to gatherings.

MEMBERSHIP FEES 2021/22
Membership fees for 2021/22 will remain unchanged and are due on April 1st. Please see the ‘Membership’ section of the website.  We know that the pandemic has been extremely hard on the finances of many members. If there is a difficulty in making a one-off annual membership payment please talk to us about ways in which we may be able to assist you.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
In view of the continuing limitations on holding physical meetings, the AGM this year will be held on-line through Zoom on Thursday 29th April at 7.30pm. Zoom access links will be sent separately to each member closer to the date of the meeting.

PLEASE NOTE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL POINTS IF MEMBERS WISH TO LEISURE SAIL. IT IS STRESSED THAT MEMBERS DOING SO, SAIL ENTIRELY AT THEIR OWN RISK.
  1. Within the boat park and on entry to and exit from the pontoons, 2-meters social distancing to be observed. Gatherings of people should be avoided.
  2. Hand sanitisers, on the carpark gate and in the toilet to be used.
  3. The club strongly recommends members look at the forecast before they go to the club and not to sail if conditions are not suitable. Only experienced sailors should leisure sail in the meantime. Buoyancy aids are mandatory.
  4. We recommend a buddy system where there is another member sailing should you need assistance.
Singlehanded boats are allowable and double handed boats but only with a household member as a crew or adopting the bubble system. The club will review this policy continually as we all want to get back to what we enjoy as soon as possible. We appreciate this gradual easing may be disappointing for members, but we must stay safe.
