We have set up the New Members’ Club (a club within the club) primarily for new adult members who have taken the RYA Level 1 course, in order to give them a point of contact and to consolidate what has been learnt on the course. But it is open to all new members, and is a good way to continue your sailing tuition at no cost to you. The club’s aims are:
The club meets roughly every two weeks on Sunday afternoons during the Spring, Summer & Autumn months, Dates are in the Calendar and also on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.
Timings on the day: briefing at 2.30 pm in downstairs committee room
For more experienced members, these sessions provide an opportunity for your own independent practice sailing. On the scheduled afternoons you can expect that there will be other people on the water and a safety boat, but please check on the day that we do in fact have a safety boat in operation.
Members can of course sail every Sunday either racing or cruising providing that there are no "Open Meetings", when only those boats taking part in the event can sail. These special events are also listed in the Calendar. In summer, Wednesday evenings are also available for sailing.
Many of our members are looking for novices to crew in their racing dinghies and providing you are prepared to come regularly they will train you to be first class crews.
The NMC is run by David Evans with other experienced helpers.
Dates for the meetings of the New Members’ Club will be advised on the weekly newsletter.
If sailing during the winter months we strongly recommend wearing either a wet suit (Long John) or a drysuit and dinghy sailing boots. In the summer, normal outdoor clothing is adequate but do please bring a change of clothes and a towel just in case you get wet.
