ADULT SAILING COURSES

Progress quickly from beginner to expert in a controlled, safe and enjoyable environment.

Wembley Sailing Club is a fun and scenic environment to learn to sail, with trees sheltering the shores and easy launching, and the iconic view of the Wembley Arch in the background.

The RYA National Sailing Scheme is a series of two day courses designed to prepare you for independent sailing.
We offer RYA level 1 and 2 courses as standard, as this is usually the requirement to join sailing clubs or hire a boat.

Book your RYA Level 1 & 2 at the same time and recieve 10% off.

Please scroll down to see scheduled courses, and access our booking website.
Thank you... for making a sport which seems mysterious and difficult so accessible and attainable.

FAQs

WHAT COURSE IS RIGHT FOR ME?
I'm a beginner. What course should I do?
We suggest our RYA Level 1 course. This course aims to introduce participants to sailing and take them to a point where they are comfortable with the basic techniques to sail around a short course. It's great as a standalone course or can lead on to our RYA Level 2 course which introduces more advanced techniques such as coming alongside a moored boat and picking up a man overboard.

Each of these courses takes place over a weekend and can either be booked as a group course with up to 5 other participants or as a 1:1 or 2:1 private course with an instructor.

What qualification do I need to hire a boat?
Most centres that run hire schemes require a RYA Level 2 qualification.
Wembley does not hire boats out to non-members, however members with an RYA Level 1 qualification are able to use club boats for free as long as safety cover is provided.

Can I skip RYA Adult level 1?
Yes, you can book straight on for a Level 2 course if you feel you are already at Level 1 standard.
To give you an idea at the end of a Level 1 we would expect sailors to be able to sail around a small triangle course going upwind and downwind, tacking (turning the front of the boat through the wind) and gybing (turning the back of the boat through the wind).

The other option would be a private assessment, these are a little more expensive.  You work one on one with one of our experienced instructors who will assess your level and advise on next steps.

I have my RYA Competent Crew or other Yachting Qualification. Should I skip Level 1?
We wouldn't reccomend this. Your sailing theory will be strong, but Level 1 focuses on the physical movement part that is very different from big boat sailing.

When do you run adult courses?
Our Adult Courses run over weekends during the sailing season (March-October) and follow the RYA National Sailing Scheme.
Once you have learned to sail, we offer group coached sessions every weekend.

We are able to offer weekdays only as Private Tuition.

I want to do a Level 1 and Level 2, is there a discount?
